About Gloom & Bloom

Transparency in AI-powered journalism. Understanding how we analyze, classify, and present global news through two distinct editorial lenses.

Our Mission

Gloom & Bloom exists to provide balanced perspective on global events by presenting news through two complementary lenses: stories that inspire hope and showcase human progress (Bloom), and developments that require urgent attention and action (Gloom).

We believe that both perspectives are essential for informed citizenship. Hope motivates action, while awareness of challenges guides where that action is most needed.

AI-Generated Content

Important: All articles on this platform are generated by artificial intelligence systems.

Every story you read here is original content created by AI language models based on analysis of multiple verified news sources. We do not republish existing articles—instead, we synthesize information from various sources to create new, original reporting that provides unique perspectives on current events.

Our AI systems are designed to maintain journalistic standards: factual accuracy, source attribution, balanced reporting, and clear distinction between facts and analysis.

Our Methodology

1

Source Collection

We monitor RSS feeds and public APIs from 50+ reputable news organizations including Reuters, Associated Press, BBC, NPR, The Guardian, and other trusted sources. Our systems collect 200-500 news items daily from diverse geographical and political perspectives.

2

Sentiment Classification

AI systems analyze each source article to classify its overall sentiment as Bloom (positive developments, progress, solutions) or Gloom (challenges, problems, concerning trends). Articles that are purely neutral are logged but not used for content generation. Each classification includes a confidence score.

3

Topic Clustering

Related stories covering the same event or topic are grouped together. This allows our AI to create comprehensive articles that synthesize information from multiple sources rather than producing redundant pieces on the same story.

4

Article Generation

Our AI creates original articles with headlines, subheadings, and 400-800 word bodies. The system is instructed to write in clear, engaging prose while maintaining factual accuracy and always attributing claims to source material. No text is copied directly from sources.

5

Quality Review

A second AI system reviews each generated article for factual consistency with sources, appropriate tone matching the Bloom/Gloom classification, readability, and complete source attribution. Articles that don't pass this quality gate are either regenerated or discarded.

Source Selection Process

We prioritize sources based on several criteria:

  • Editorial Standards: Established newsrooms with professional editorial oversight
  • Fact-Checking: Organizations with strong fact-checking and correction policies
  • Transparency: Clear author attribution and source identification
  • Diversity: Geographic, political, and cultural diversity in perspectives
  • Accessibility: Publicly available content (no paywalled material)

We continually evaluate our source list and adjust based on reliability metrics and coverage quality.

Editorial Policy

Accuracy Commitment

While our content is AI-generated, we maintain strict standards for factual accuracy. All claims in our articles must be verifiable in the linked source material. We do not publish speculation or unverified information.

Source Attribution

Every article includes a complete list of source links. Readers can verify any claim by following these links to the original reporting. This is both ethical practice and legal protection under fair use doctrine.

Bias and Balance

Our Bloom/Gloom classification is inherently subjective, but we strive for consistency in our criteria. We regularly audit our classifications for systematic biases and adjust our AI prompts accordingly. We seek to present multiple perspectives within each lens.

Corrections

When errors are identified, we correct them promptly and transparently. Correction notices are appended to articles and logged in our transparency reports.

Known Limitations

We want to be transparent about the limitations of our approach:

  • AI Bias: Our AI systems may reflect biases present in their training data
  • Classification Subjectivity: Bloom/Gloom categories involve subjective judgment
  • Source Limitations: We can only work with publicly available sources
  • Language Barriers: Currently optimized for English-language sources
  • Breaking News Lag: Our process takes 2-4 hours, not suitable for breaking news
  • Context Limitations: AI may miss nuanced cultural or historical context
